'Gosney & Kallman's CHINATOWN' is located on the famous Shanghai food Street 'Zhapu Lu.' This was the first foreign concession in Shanghai. The building was built in 1931 by a Japanese architect in a Hindu style, in the Jewish concession, in Shanghai! When we got the building it had been vacant for 7 years. We had to put a new roof on, new electricity, and plumbing (there were no toilets in the building). We also added a third floor. We completely refurbished the place, but kept all the original structure and incorporated it into the design.
I'm Miss Amelia Kallman, an American Showgirl-next-door. In ‘07 I started this blog when I moved to Shanghai to open China's 1st burlesque club. After opening Chinatown and becoming highly successful, this blog was shut down by Chinese authorities. After threats and incidents, I was forced to flee China overnight. Now I live in London where I've started to do shows again, and have written the book, 'Diary of a Shanghai Showgirl'. The timing feels right to bring this blog back. Hope you enjoy!
